Dr Andy Cook

Dr. Andy Cook was raised in Bladenboro, North Carolina. After graduating from the Southern College of Optometry, he took over the practice of Garner Family Eye Care in 1981. Dr. Cook attended North Carolina State University and majored in chemistry and pre-optometry before transferring to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He graduated from UNC after earning his Bachelor of Science with a Major in Business Administration Degree in 1973. He continued his education at Georgia State University, and then graduated with honors from the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee with his Doctor of Optometry Degree. He later attended the Pennsylvania College of Optometry's Light & Laser Institute, where he continued his studies and perfected his skills.

Dr. Cook is a member in good standing with the American Optometric Association, the Southern Council of Optometrists, and the North Carolina State Optometric Society. He has served on various committees and as an elected officer for the Southern Council of Optometrist from 1983 until the present. He also was elected and served as President of this organization in 1996. Dr. Cook served as President in 1990-91 for the North Carolina State Optometric Society and continues to hold the office of Chairman of Optometric PAC, as he has since 1991.

Dr. Cook has been a member of the Garner Chamber of Commerce, and the Garner Civitan Club since 1981. He has diligently worked with the Boy Scouts of America, the American Cancer Society, and the United Way. He is known and appreciated for his service to, and support of, many local charities, events, schools and athletics.

He received his Optometry State Board Licensure in the state of North Carolina, as well as Tennessee and Georgia in 1981.

Dr. Cook has received many achievement awards such as: 1990 Civitan of the Year Award; 1984-85 Latt Wall Distinguished Service Award; 1984 Distinguished Community Service Award by the Garner Jaycees; 1984 Outstanding Young Men in American Award; 1981 Southern College of Optometry Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges; 1979-81 American Optometric Student Association Officer; 1977-81 Southern College of Optometry Officer and Committee Chairman.

Dr. Cook was the Salutatorian in 1981 at Southern College of Optometry, where he graduated with honors, and was a member of the Omega Delta Professional Fraternity, NC Students Club President, Beta Sigma Kappa, and the Sigma Alpha Sigma Gold Key International Honor Society President. He was the Salutatorian of his graduating class in 1969 at Bladenboro High School in Bladenboro, NC.

Dr. Cook has participated as a lecturer at many past District and State Optometric Society meetings, the Southern Educational Congress of Optometry on Ocular Therapeutics and Third Party Vision Care. He lecturer to Optometrist in Germany on Ocular Pathology in 1992 and again in 1996. In 1989, he lectured to Optometrists in Sweden and Denmark on Ocular Pathology. Dr. Cook's writings have been a part of the Third Party Handbook (Vol. I & II) for North Carolina Optometrist since 1981. He also contributes various articles to the "Review of Optometry."

Dr. Cook has been active for many years in the Garner community. He has coached little league baseball since 1994 and he has been a youth basketball coach in the Optomist program since 1996. Dr. Cook currently lives in the Garner area and has two grown sons, Stephen and Jack. He enjoys playing basketball and golf, suba diving, and flying, as a private pilot.


Dr David K Bailey

Dr David K Bailey joined Garner Family Eye Care in December of 2007. Originally from Garner, he attended North Carolina State University and graduated with honors in 2001. At NCSU, he received a Bachelor of Science in Zoology.  He then received his Doctorate of Optometry from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis , TN.  Dr. Bailey graduated with honors from SCO in 2006. While at SCO, Dr. Bailey successfully completed two internships. His first was a Womack Army Medical Center located at Fort Bragg Army Base in North Carolina. He then interned at Columbus Eye Associates in Whiteville, NC with Dr. John Lewis, O.D. During his time at SCO, Dr. Bailey also served as the Vice-President of the North Carolina Student Club. 

Dr. Bailey received his Optometry State Board Licensure in the state of North Carolina in 2006. He also successfully completed the National Board of Examiners in Optometry Licensure Part I in 2004 and Parts II and III in 2006.

Dr. Bailey is a current member in good standing with the American Optometric Association , the North Carolina State Optometric Society and the Association of Regulatory Boards of Optometry. His scope of practice includes family eye care, contact lens fitting, treatment and management of ocular disease and eye injuries.

Locally, Dr. Bailey has been a member of the Garner Chamber of Commerce since 2007 and a member of the Garner Mid-Day Rotary since 2008.

 In his spare time, Dr. Bailey enjoys spending time with  family. He is married to Dawn and they have a daughter, Ella Catherine, who was born in February of 2009. The Bailey's enjoy the beach, golf,  kayaking, and NC State athletics.
